Molly's Room is named so as to honour previous owner Molly Coy, local artist and winner of the 2016 Busselton Art Prize. Molly's Room is romantic, rustic and elegant, with a north facing window to let in the light, and perhaps a view of Molly herself as she takes her dog Jess on her daily walks. Named for the quirky, vintage Singer sewing machine vanity base in the ensuite bathroom. With 3 large windows this beautiful garden room is filled with sunlight throughout the day. The Reef Room
The Reef Room was bestowed with this name for the rustic doors which make up the bed head over looking the huge king size bed.The doors came from the former Reef Hotel in Bunbury which was built in 1895 and add a further touch of history and interest to the room. The Reef Room also has a double basin vanity and large bath to wind down in at the end of your day. The room amenities include reverse cycle heating and cooling, bar fridge with tea/ coffee making facilities and a smart TV for your online viewing pleasure.
Cowaramup, otherwise known as 'Cow Town', is a quaint country town which has retained its character despite the rapid growth of the local tourism industry. The locals are friendly and you can find just about anything you will need in the shops right here, all within easy walking distance. There are peaceful parks nearby and the Wadandi walk track begins a short distance away, for an easy 3 hour hike to Margaret River through forest, vineyards and farmland.
Owners Shannon and Clayton live onsite in a separate residence at the rear of the property. Shannon is a chef and lover of good food and great produce. Having grown up in the Margaret River region, Shannon feels blessed as we are surrounded by an abundance of local food producers and the Saturday morning Farmers Market in Margaret River is a must-do while you are here. Clayton is a keen surfer and adventurer who spent 3 years travelling Australia. With over 15 years in the region, he appreciates how lucky we are to have such beautiful beaches and forests right here in our backyard. Together we know the region intimately and will be only too happy to share all this with you when you stay with us at Bakehouse '38!
We offer breakfast as an optional extra as some guests may choose to explore different eateries in our wine and food region. If you would like a delicious breakfast on any morning of your stay before you head out and about, you will be taken good care of here at Bakehouse '38. Shannon is our resident Chef and owner and she will whip you up a cooked breakfast that can be selected from our ever changing menu. Breakfast also includes seasonal fruits, cereal, toast with local condiments and tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate. You can enjoy breakfast in your room, on the verandah, in the guest lounge/ dining area or outside in the courtyard between 8-10am daily. Please let us know upon check-in so we can be assured to have fresh ingredients on hand. Simply select your preferred breakfast and advise of any dietary requirements. Breakfast is an extra charge and can be paid by cash while here. Daily breakfast $25 per person per night.
Guests can hire our electric Rickshaw for the ultimate romantic experience. It has 3 speeds and is simple to ride. Pamper your loved one with a scenic cruise around Cowaramup and along the Wadandi track between town and Margaret River. Beneath the seat is a cargo storage area with room enough for a picnic hamper and a bottle of wine. If you like we can provide a tantalising chef-prepared picnic for two from right here in the Bakehouse kitchen. Rickshaw hire $100 per day. Rickshaw hire with picnic hamper $150.
Cowaramup is now home to a wonderful herd of 42 lifesized fibreglass Friesian cows and calves wandering the streets, parks and shops of the village. You will encounter them as you drive into town or as you wander around and at least one cow is visible directly from the verandah of Bakehouse '38!
The cows love having their photographs taken and often dress up for the occasion.
A community project supported by the local Lions Club, the udderly delightful bovines mooved into the town in July 2012.
Each year in July, we celebrate our cows with a huge Cow Town Birthday Party . Called Deja Moo – a Legend Dairy Country Fair is a wonderful extravaganza where locals and visitors come together for a day of cowabunga fun and frivolity.
This year Deja Moo will be held on Saturday 8th July, the middle weekend of the July school holidays, from 9 am to 3 pm.
Formally known as “Rails to Trails” this path is open to walkers and cyclists. The Wadandi Track showcases the heritage of the former Busselton to Flinders Bay Railway and takes you through some of the most beautiful natural bush, farmland and vineyards in the Margaret River region.
The track currently begins or ends (depending where you start) at Cowaramup and finishes at Witchcliffe. Passing though peppermint, jarrah and young karri forest the trail provides a firsthand view of the abundant bird life. The track offers the opportunity to experience the Margaret River region through its natural environment, Aboriginal heritage and the rich history of the industries and communities served by the railway from 1884 to 1957. Along the 5 kilometres north of Margaret River there are numerous bridges crossing a major river and creeks and streams of varying sizes. The trail is easy to navigate with picnic areas along the way. The spectacular birdlife includes yellow robins, parrots and blue wrens and the wildflowers are stunning in Spring (September to December).
As it was a railway, the gradient is relatively flat, and the terrain is generally gentle. However, it can get moderate in some places and a mountain bike is recommended. The railway line was built in the 1880s by prominent timber businessman M. C. Davies, who laid a number of lines to take timber from his mills to jetties at Hamelin Bay and Flinders Bay for export. By 1916 the timber industry had declined and the railway from Augusta to Margaret River was bought by the WA Government. It was extended to Busselton by 1925 to service the remaining timber industry, the original group settlements, farming and domestic passengers. As the road network improved, more of the cartage was done by trucks and the Busselton to Flinders Bay branch railway eventually closed in 1957, after which most of the rail line and sleepers were salvaged for other uses. A handful of sleepers and rail line can still be spotted today and some major elements of the railway infrastructure remain in place. These include the original railway formation; cuttings; embankments; and many of the bridges and culverts.
Since the closure of the railway, several roads and some public facilities have been constructed on the trail reserve. Some parts of the reserve were leased to adjoining landowners. While all of these leases have lapsed or were terminated, some of the activities that were permitted under the conditions of these leases are still taking place within the reserve – including grazing, plantations, dams and quarrying of local resources.

Gracetown was developed in 1963 and named in honour of local Western Australian heroine Grace Bussell.
The town is well known for its many surfing spots. North Point is a powerful break that provides good tube rides for surfers. South Point is popular because it works well when the breeze is onshore and Huzzas, in the middle of the bay, is a less powerful wave that is popular whenever it breaks. The main beach area, located in the bay, is an easily accessible swimming beach suitable for families with small children. Close to Gracetown are several other excellent surfing locations. The Cow Bombie surf break is 2 km offshore west of Gracetown and holds the honour of serving up the biggest waves ever ridden in Australia.
The Cape to Cape Track runs across the beach to the west of the town and it is one of the few towns located along the track.
Enjoy a visit to Sandalford's charming Cellar Door in Margaret River. The rustic, rammed earth building sits among a beautiful country garden surrounded by grape vines and Southwest bushland. Bring your family and friends to relax and picnic in this gorgeous location, using the covered pergola and free BBQ facilities.

Delicious ice cream handmade from their own farm fresh milk, and served in a unique rural setting, is a just a taste of what Millers Farm Café has to offer.
Third generation dairy farmer Paul Miller, and his wife Trish, run a working dairy farm, produce ice cream and bottled milk, and run the Farm Café. Located about 3km south east of Cowaramup town, the Farm Café is a family venue suitable for everyone, from toddlers to grandparents.
The Farm Café, open daily, is a restored 90 year old cottage set on spacious grounds, offering rural views, adventure playground, gift shop, home made treats and light lunches, coffee and of course…an enticing selection of award-winning, handmade ice cream!

Its the ideal place to begin your exploration of this renowned and varied wine growing area. Here, you can sample your favourite styles in the tasting room, then plan your winery tour. They've got all the maps, tourist guides and information you will need.
The centre is owned and managed by local wine identities who have extensive knowledge about grape growing and making wine. If you catch one of them in the shop, be sure to ask them about their labels.
The Golden Jersey
The new owners of The Golden Jersey want to take you back to the good old fashioned service and country hospitality of the 1930's, when the fuel station began.
They offer full driveway service.
The general store boasts natural locally made ice-creams, everyday grocery items, fresh bait that catches big fish, ice, hardware, agricultural supplies and hangover cures!
As bike lovers, they would love to service your bike or supply you with bike accessories, as well as offering you inside knowledge on the local trails.

Cowaramup District Social Club
Cowaramup is still a small, genuine country town in the middle of the thriving Margaret River Wine Region. As the restaurant at Bakehouse '38 is not quite yet ready to open for night time service, if you don't feel like driving the 10 minute drive into Margaret River you can dine at one of the local cafes which are open on various nights or head on down to the District Club.
Established in 1954 by the Cowaramup community, the "Cow Club" is a place for members, visitors and guests to gather. New members welcome.

The Margaret River Chocolate Company
The Margaret River Chocolate Company’s original factory in the Margaret River region was opened in 1999 and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Western Australia.
It has an amazing range of chocolate products, with Free entry and Free tastings, as well as viewing windows to see the products being made.
The Chocolate Cafe has a range of delicious light lunches and sweet treats, where you can enjoy everything from burgers, chips, salad and soup, to a sumptuous range of cakes, desserts, chocolate fondues, milk shakes, hot drinks and the best chocolate brownies in Australia!

The Margaret River Dairy Company
The Margaret River Dairy Company’s origins go back to 1966 when a group of Italian artisan cheesemakers began selling their farmhouse and ricotta cheeses in a small store in suburban Perth. In 1990 they moved to the unspoilt South West to be closer to the rich soils and rolling green pastures beloved by dairy cattle. The Margaret River Dairy Company has gone from strength to strength ever since.
They trace their origins to a group of Italian immigrants who were proud of both their heritage and their new home. These pioneers longed to recreate their favourite foods and began crafting dairy products that were steeped in tradition, though new to Western Australia. Soon the wider community began enjoying the fruits of their endeavours. The rest is history, their legacy The Margaret River Dairy Company.
The very first vineyard planted in our famous wine region. Here is their story:
A little known fact about the Cullen family is that their association with wine in Western Australia dates back to the 1880’s, when Kevin Cullen’s grandfather, Ephraim Mayo Clarke (1846 – 1921), purchased a small business and plot of land in Bunbury, Western Australia, where he started a store and winery. He successfully produced the highly popular ‘Punchbowl’ wine which he sold through the family shop and as far afield as the WA Goldfields. Kevin’s mother Elvie and her nine siblings all worked at the winery. When Ephraim died, it passed into the hands of his only tee-totalling son, who left the vines unattended. They eventually went into decline and the land was sold.
Kevin Cullen grew up in Western Australia and studied medicine at the University of Western Australia, where he became the first recipient of a Medical Degree. He was an outstanding student and in 1941 was invited to Melbourne University to continue his medical studies. It was here that he met the enigmatic young Diana Adams. Diana was studying Physiotherapy and was at the top of her class and a popular student.
They were married in 1946 and moved to Tasmania where Diana’s family was well known and featured regularly in Hobart’s social pages. Soon after they were married, Kevin’s father Pat, who was living in Bunbury Western Australia and working as a doctor himself, sent word to Kevin that a doctor was desperately needed in Busselton. In 1947 Kevin moved to Busselton to become their local doctor and it wasn’t long before Diana joined him to work as a physiotherapist.
Their family quickly grew with the addition of Rick, Shel, Stewart, Digby, Ariane and finally Vanya.
Kevin and Diana purchased land in Wilyabrup where they tried their hand at raising sheep and cattle; Diana tending the farm, clearing land and working alongside labourers whilst raising their six children. All this time, Kevin worked at the Busselton Hospital and in his own practice, being on call and travelling back and forth between Busselton and the family farm to help Diana. In 1966 he also commenced the famous Busselton Health Survey; the world’s longest running longitudinal health study, which is still in place today.
In 1971, they made the decision to plant vines on the land, having taken the advice of Dr John Gladstones and undertaken considerable research themselves in their overseas travels.
In only the second year of production, Diana’s efforts were recognised with her riesling being awarded a gold medal at the Melbourne Wine Show. In 1977 she won best wine at the Canberra Wine Show and in 1982 she made history as the first woman to win a trophy at the Perth Royal Show. She honed her winemaking skills by reading, learning from others and from the extensive travel she and Kevin undertook across Australia, the US and Europe, picking up tips and ideas everywhere they went. Diana’s dedication paid off and she continued to win awards and accolades for her outstanding wine, becoming Cullen’s chief winemaker in 1981until daughter Vanya took over in 1989.
Kevin always had a great love of Cabernet Sauvignon and constantly referred to its need to have a steely backbone and they purchased many great wines from Bordeaux during their travels to obtain a clear image of the direction that their wine should take.
He was also a passionate believer in the potential for Margaret River to become one of the great areas for chardonnay. He initiated the Cullen Wines Great International Chardonnay Tasting, to enable the wines from Margaret River to be compared with chardonnays the world over. 2016 marked the 31st International Chardonnay Tasting which continues to be a sold out stellar event on the Australian wine calendar.
Cullen Wines have decided to recognise Kevin and Diana’s pioneering contribution to the wine industry by naming their flagships in their honour – the Diana Madeline (Cabernet Sauvignon blend) and the Kevin John (Chardonnay), which both consistently receive some of the highest ratings in Australia, year after year.
Kevin passed away in 1994 and Diana in 2003. Both Kevin and Diana have been awarded life membership with the Margaret River Wine Industry Association, and in 2003 the WA Wine Industry Association introduced the annual ‘Diana Madeline Cullen Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual to the WA Wine Industry’ in her honour. In 1995 they were jointly named ‘West Australian Citizen of the Year’ and in 1994 Kevin was awarded the Order of Australia for his services to medicine and wine. Diana was awarded the Order of Australia for her services to viticulture and wine in 1999.
Cullen Wines is jointly owned by the six Cullen siblings. Youngest daughter Vanya Cullen has been winemaking at her family’s Wilyabrup estate since 1983. She was appointed to Chief Winemaker in 1989 and Managing Director in 1999. Several of Kevin and Diana’s grandchildren, or ‘gen 3’ also have a keen interest in wine and wine production.

Providore showcases an ever-changing selection of home made jams, preserves and sauces, and a treasure trove of unique gourmet ingredients.
They make their own verjuice, tapenade, dessert sauces, salad dressings and preserved fruits and harvest and press their own estate grown olive oil and make their own wine. Fresh egg pastas, cheese condiments, and a myriad of other fascinating ingredients most with recipes attached for you to take home and try. Each day different products are presented for complimentary tasting.
Providore's range of jams, relishes and chutneys are all made by hand in small batches. They have daily wine tastings. They also taste a sensational chocolate liqueur - Sambarino. Visit to experience a selection of rare ingredients, a range of infused olive oils and marinated olives and a gift shop with books and food themed merchandise.

Your visit to Olio Bello will be the perfect opportunity to savour a range of organic, estate pressed Olio Bello Extra Virgin Olive Oils and other produce. The tasting room, envisioned as an educational centre where you can experience guided tasting of oils, allows you to discover some of the culinary delights of this ancient elixir and further expand your palette. You’ll experience first hand the subtle flavours of their oils including unique citrus pressed oils and sensational infused oils of roasted garlic & chilli and parmesan. You can also try delicious deli lines. A unique range of preserves is made exclusively from produce grown organically on the farm.
You have the unique opportunity to watch the olive milling process during the pressing season (April-June) and taste Olio Nuovo (New Oil) of the season which has been a most memorable experience for many. The products will provide you with tastes you've never experienced before.

Bettenays Margaret River Nougat Company
In 1989 the Bettenay family searched the Margaret River area for an ideal property on which to grow grapes. They had a head start in this quest as Eric Bettenay had spent many years working for the CSIRO mapping the soils of Western Australia. With Greg’s academic background of an Honours degree in Horticulture, it is not surprising they ended up with one of the best vineyard sites in the region. This site was planted in 1989 to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Later plantings of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon were established in 1997. The property now boasts 25 acres under vine with the excess grapes being highly sought after by neighbouring wineries.
The premises also includes a nougat kitchen and full nougat and wine tasting area maximising the experience for visitors to the premises. Bettenay Wines & Nougat tasting room is open 7 days a week, 9:30am - 5pm.

Nestled in the tiny town of Cowaramup in the heart of the Margaret River region, MuKau Giftware & Gallery is a unique giftware store owned and operated by Kiwis Wendy and Kerry Sibly.
The shop stocks a wide range of interesting gifts for all ages including a great range of handbags, jewellery, scarves and hand creams, home wares including ceramics, cushions and lamps, men’s novelty gifts, cufflinks, and books, old world tin robots, souvenirs and a great selection of children’s toys, craft, and games. Upstairs, the gallery houses paintings and photography by local artists, including some of Kerry’s own surfing and kite surfing paintings.
Their philosophy for the store is to create a warm and inviting shopping experience for all ages.Local quality handmade products, along with other unique items are sourced from around the globe, setting MuKau apart from the usual. At the same time their prices remain affordable!

In Molly's own words:
After more than two decades of working and teaching in the visual arts disciplines, including - painting, airbrushing, typography, design and visual merchandising, studying bookbinding in 2000 was a much needed creative revival. The following 15 years spent restoring beautiful old books connected me to the Artisans of the past, developed and honed my skills and perception.
Moving to the Shire of Augusta Margaret River in 2013, establishing a new studio/workshop and selling my binding business in 2015 has allowed me the time and space to concentrate on painting again (mixed media and watercolours) and to study printmaking, developing a Portfolio of block, intaglio and monotype prints.
I have also applied my book making skills into the creation of individual and limited edition artist books, now combining mixed media and print-making within the book structure thus extending my capacity to frame and develop concepts and images.
Recent collaborations to produce limited edition artist books include:
• ‘Loneliness to Solitude’ with photographer/textile artist Unhi Mook.
• ‘Overprint’ with artist/printmaker Leon Pericles.
• ‘Handscapes’ (winner of the 'City of Busselton Art Award 2016') with letterpress historian/printer Dr Claire Bolton.
Visits to Molly's studio are by appointment only or during the Open Studios event which runs through April each year.

Margaret Riviera is dedicated to showcasing the best local produce from the Margaret River district in the lush south-west of Western Australia. While the rustic-looking shop focuses on all that is good in the local district, it also stocks a growing array of tasty goodies from elsewhere, particularly cheeses. They feature sauces, vinegars, dressings, pickles, jams, preserves, nuts, cereals, beverages and sweet things.
